Context:

Federal funding cuts spell disaster for community safety. From the chainsaw DOGE is taking to federal agencies, and, most recently, the Department of Justice's abrupt cancellation of existing grants, people and communities across the country are now at risk.

On the chopping block are programs that provide mentorship to children, reduce violence, help people find housing, create employment opportunities, and more. Without these programs, we ALL lose. Older Americans could go hungry, parents lose essential support, more people wind up on the streets, or worse. Meanwhile, Trump is also trying to push spendy, harmful measures like mass deportations, aggressive over-policing practices, and a massive expansion of the death penalty. But Congress – not the president – holds the power of the purse. That's why we must demand action: Send a message to Congress and urge them to protect community safety programs.

Choose Community Safety and Stability

Body:

As your constituent, I'm writing to push back on the Trump administration's efforts to rewrite appropriations laws Congress passed - and to invest in essential services that lead to community stability and safety.

Between the chainsaw DOGE is taking to federal agencies and their grant programs, the Department of Justice's recent abrupt cancellation of existing grants, and other proposed funding cuts, it is clear community safety is at risk. On the chopping block are programs that provide mentorship to children, reduce violence, help people find housing, create employment opportunities, and provide addiction treatment and mental healthcare.

Despite warnings and pleas from local community leaders, experts, and the public at large, the Trump administration has continued to cut essential services to advance his cruel agenda. But Congress holds the power of the purse, not the president. That's why I'm urging you to follow the will of the people and choose community safety now.

Sincerely,
