Santa Barbara Police Agree to Protect Protestors’ Rights (04/05/2007)
LOS ANGELES – Michael Tocher was a peaceful man with a megaphone and a message of protest when Santa Barbara police arrested him on Veterans Day in 2004. Today the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California announced a settlement of its lawsuit against the city over his wrongful arrest.

ACLU Victorious in Defense of Online Free Speech (03/22/2007)
NEW YORK - A federal district court today ruled in favor of the American Civil Liberties Union’s longstanding challenge to an Internet censorship law, ACLU v. Gonzales. Although the law was enacted in 1998, courts immediately forbade the government from enforcing it because it suppressed a substantial amount of constitutionally protected speech.

ACLU Scores Free Speech Victory for Columbia Residents (03/22/2007)
ST. LOUIS - The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals today affirmed a lower court’s ruling prohibiting the city of Columbia and the nonprofit corporation, Memorial Day Weekend Salute to Veterans, from restricting free expression at Columbia’s annual air show.

NYCLU Releases RNC Documents That City Tried to Conceal (03/21/2007)
NEW YORK – The New York Civil Liberties Union today made public reams of documents and dozens of hours of video about the New York Police Department’s policing of the 2004 Republican National Convention. The release follows a federal judge’s ruling last month that New York City could not stop the NYCLU from sharing the documents with the public.

ACLU of New Jersey Successfully Defends Free Speech for Peace Activist (03/20/2007)
NEWARK - A New Jersey Superior Court judge today dismissed charges against Bob Flisser, who was arrested in Flemington for participating in a public vigil for fallen soldiers without obtaining a permit. The American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey, representing Flisser, argued that Flemington's "parade" permit ordinance violated numerous free speech protections and was applied discriminatorily. Flemington officials agreed to the dismissal.

ACLU and Film Festival Sue Michigan Lawmakers Over Free Speech Violations (03/20/2007)
DETROIT - The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan today filed a federal lawsuit charging that state officials violated the First Amendment by punishing the Ann Arbor Film Festival (AAFF) for screening films that the state deemed "objectionable."

DENVER, CO - The American Civil Liberties Union today filed a complaint against three White House staffers for illegally ejecting Denver residents from a taxpayer-funded town hall with President Bush, even though they had done nothing to disrupt the event. HONOLULU - In a victory for voter fairness on election ballot measures, the state Supreme Court sided with the American Civil Liberties Union of Hawaii in ruling that a Honolulu prosecutor unlawfully used public funds and resources to urge voters to approve a proposed constitutional amendment.
