The ACLU of Illinois seeks a Major Gifts Associate to join the 3-person Development
Department which works to increase financial support for the ACLU’s programs
and projects. The Major Gifts Associate reports to the Development Director.
Responsibilities:
Under the Direction of the Development Director and Development Committee, the
Major Gifts Associate will play a critical role in all facets of managing and
implementing the ACLU’s annual major gifts campaign.
The Major Gift Associate’s responsibilities will also include:
- Managing a portfolio of significant donors and prospective donors in the
$500-$5,000 range; including personal visits and donor cultivation;
- Assisting Development Director and Executive Director by arranging personal
meetings, making follow-up phone calls and preparing background materials
and information on donors;
- Drafting correspondence, producing development mailings, and compiling donor
memos and reports;
- Preparing materials for volunteer fundraising solicitors and assisting solicitors
with donor meetings;
- Maintaining confidential donor information on Raisers’ Edge database;
including recording information from donor meetings and overseeing acknowledgements
of gifts and pledges;
- Conducting research on donors and prospective supporters;
- Providing assistance with special events, donor receptions and other Development
Department activities.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be an experienced development professional who has
at least three years’ experience with individual giving fundraising campaigns
and is familiar with the programs and projects of the ACLU. Other qualifications
will include:
- Attention to detail and excellent communications skills, both written and
oral;
- Knowledge of fundraising software (Raiser’s Edge preferred), experience
with donor database management and gift processing systems.
- Experience working with Board members, donors and volunteers;
- Demonstrated commitment to civil liberties and civil rights;
- Experience meeting deadlines and prioritizing assignments;
- Ability to work well under pressure and to be a team player in a fast-paced
environment.
Compensation:
Salary based on experience. Very generous and comprehensive benefits including
