OVERVIEW:
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a national
public interest organization devoted to the defense of the Bill of Rights. The
Development Department of the National Office in New York is seeking a fulltime
Administrative Assistant who will report to the Gift Processing and Member Servicing
Manager and work under the direction of the Member Servicing Coordinator.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Member Services Administrative Assistant is responsible for responding
to telephone, mail and e-mail inquiries about general membership information
as well as questions about gifts, address changes, membership expiration date
issues, and activist opportunities. He/she will also respond to members and
to the public regarding general questions about ACLU issues and its programs.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responding to telephone, mail and e-mail requests for information including
inquiries about current and prospective ACLU membership, fundraising, gifts,
ACLU issues and other public relations matters.
- Answering basic questions from members and the public regarding general
ACLU issues and positions; keeping current with ACLU news and public statements.
- Answering phones and routing to appropriate departments.
- Taking gift inquiries and member information over the telephone.
- Updating member information, including the member database files; prepare
and send replacement and new Membership Cards.
- Sending acknowledgment mailings to various donor group gift programs.
- Other administrative duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in customer relations and servicing donors or equivalent experience
required.
- Ability to take direction; ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness and ability to see work through to completion and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Good oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills
- Proficient with word processing and database applications, including spreadsheets.
- An interest in civil liberties and civil rights is preferred.
COMPENSATION:
Salary of $34,002 Excellent health and welfare benefits.
