BACKGROUND:
The New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) is one of the nation's foremost defenders
of civil liberties and civil rights. Founded in 1951 as the New York affiliate
of the American Civil Liberties Union, the NYCLU is a not-for-profit, nonpartisan
organization with seven chapters and 48,000 members statewide.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The NYCLU is seeking an individual with graphic design skills to work with its
Communications and Field Departments in developing print and web-based materials.
The intern will play an important role in spreading the organization’s
message and attracting new members. This is an exciting opportunity to build
a portfolio and gain work experience in a friendly, fast-paced environment.
This is an unpaid internship. The intern will be expected to work two days a
week on a flexible schedule.
The ideal candidate must possess a well-rounded knowledge of graphic design
across a variety of media. Knowledge of civil liberties-related issues is a
plus.
Responsibilities:
- Design, lay out and produce printed materials such as newsletters, posters,
signs, reports and more
- Work with existing materials to develop a consistent visual brand and apply
the organization’s visual brand consistently across all materials
- Expand the NYCLU’s library of visual images
- Perform special projects as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proficiency with Quark, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently
- For design and lay out of printed materials, a portfolio or any examples
of previous projects is very helpful
- A diplomatic touch and a sense of humor.
The internship runs from June 16 through Aug. 15. Please
