Religious Liberty Field Coordinator
American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Florida
The ACLU of Florida seeks a full-time, temporary Field Coordinator to coordinate
the ACLU’s efforts with that of its allies in a campaign to defeat two
proposed amendments to the Florida Constitution that would erode religious liberty
in Florida.
We seek to hire a qualified individual starting immediately. The position is
likely to require extensive travel around the state. The position will last
until the end of November 2008.
General Duties:
The ACLU of Florida Religious Liberty Field Coordinator will be responsible
for:
- Coordinating an ACLU-FL Campaign to defeat the two proposed amendments to
the Florida Constitution that would authorize school vouchers, undermine public
education, mandate government funding of religion, and permit religious discrimination;
- Designing and implementing grassroots strategies to mobilize ACLU of Florida
chapters, student clubs, supporters and others to take meaningful action to
defeat the proposed amendments to the Florida Constitution;
- Working with the ACLU-FL Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Field Coordinator,
who is heading up the campaign against Issue #2 – the so-called “marriage
amendment” – on a strategy to mobilize voters across the state
to defeat all three amendments;
- Working cooperatively with allied organizations and coalitions in Florida
and elsewhere, as well as the National ACLU Program on Freedom of Religion
& Belief, which also is working to defeat the proposed constitutional
amendment.
Qualifications:
The ACLU-FL Religious Liberty Field Coordinator shall have:
- A minimum of one year successful experience with organizing campaigns and
grassroots mobilization;
- The ability to organize and manage community events, facilitate meetings
and motivate others to join a cause;
- Experience working with coalitions;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
- Experience in supervising and motivating volunteers and working cooperatively
with diverse racial, religious and ethnic groups;
- The ability to keep organized in a fast-paced environment and to manage
several projects simultaneously;
- Self-motivation and the ability to work independently;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and Publisher) and
the ability to create basic public education materials;
- The ability to attend evening and weekend meetings, and to travel around
the state;
- A demonstrated commitment to civil liberties and civil rights and the mission
of the American Civil Liberties Union, and particularly to supporting freedom
of religion and belief for all Floridians.

Salary: Salary is comparable to other nonprofit advocacy
organizations and will be set depending upon experience. Salary and benefits
are negotiable.
Supervision: The Religious Liberty Field Coordinator
will work under the direct supervision of the ACLU of Florida’s Public
Policy Director.
