DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE

The American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon/ACLU Foundation of Oregon (ACLU of Oregon) seeks a Development Associate to assist with the fundraising efforts of the Oregon affiliate. The Development Associate will manage fundraising and other special events, assist with the Annual Giving Campaign, and assist with cultivation and acknowledgement of donors as part of the development team

The ACLU of Oregon is dedicated to advancing and defending the civil liberties principles found in the Bill of Rights of the Oregon and U.S. Constitutions through litigation, lobbying, public education and communications. The ACLU of Oregon has more than 16,000 members, the highest per capita membership of any affiliate. The annual budget is approximately $1 million. Its main office is in Portland, with a satellite office in Eugene. This position will be in the Portland office.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Development Associate’s primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Manage the organization’s annual fundraising event
  • Expand underwriting/sponsorships of annual fundraising event
  • Recruit and supervise Event Committee volunteers
  • Provide staff support and guidance to Event Committee
  • Plan and implement cultivation and other events
  • Assist Development Director with implementation of personal solicitation program
  • Prepare written communications to donors
  • Work with other staff in providing opportunities for donor and volunteer engagement
  • Assist with donor database maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned

The Development Associate will report to the Development Director and be part of the Development team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the mission and programs of ACLU, with a broad appreciation for and a sensitivity to the culture and traditions of the organization;
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, with at least two years of experience in development;
  • Special event experience;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong self-motivation and the ability to manage multiple deadlines;
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn about and understand cultures other than one’s own;
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with donors, volunteers, staff and Board members, and a commitment to the highest ethical standards;
  • Experience with donor database systems;
  • Ability to travel;
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours;

Helpful Skills & Experience:

  • Degree in nonprofit management, fundraising or equivalent
  • Experience working with people of races, religions and national origin other than one’s own.

Compensation:
Salary commensurate with experience, including health, life, disability, retirement, and other benefits;
