The ACLU, along with five library associations, Project Gutenberg and the Internet Archive, has filed a friend-of-the-court brief with the Ninth Circuit that points out the numerous constitutionally protected forms of speech that are currently taking place over peer-to-peer file-sharing networks. Accordingly, the ACLU argues that this new technology should not be shut down simply because some may use it for unauthorized downloading of copyrighted works.
