ACLU Letter in Support of Dent-Smith Amendment to NDAA

The ACLU sent this vote recommendation to House offices on May 17, urging Representatives to vote yes on the bipartisan Dent-Smith Amendment #318 to H.R. 4909, the National Defense Authorization Act, which was being considered on the House floor the same day. The Dent-Smith Amendment would strike from the bill section 1094, which would require every federal agency to allow religiously affiliated contractors and grantees to discriminate in hiring with taxpayer funds. Section 1094 was adopted in committee after being offered as an amendment by Rep. Russell of Oklahoma, and poses a significant danger to civil rights protections.
