The ACLU joined this coalition letter to the House Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties to urge the support of the Fair Chance to Compete for Jobs Act of 2019. The Fair Chance Act of 2019 would require the federal government and their contractors to wait to request criminal history information from job applicants until after a conditional offer of employment has been made. This legislation would provide millions of Americans equal access to federal employment opportunities and set an example for states and private employers to adopt policies that relieve workplace reentry barriers.
