With over 1,400 police departments in the U.S. already using drones, “Drones as First Responder” programs are beginning to proliferate with little oversight or accountability.
In this paper, ACLU’s Jay Stanley explores the potential consequences of these drone programs and why communities should hold off on implementing them until laws governing their use are in place. He also lays out ACLU’s guidelines for communities that are already using drones for this purpose.
