Letter to White House Urging Implementation of Updated Child Support Enforcement Program Rules

Document Date: August 24, 2015

The Obama Administration developed and released the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking: Flexibility, Efficiency, and Modernization in Child Support Enforcement Programs issued by the Office of Child Support Enforcement on November 17, 2014. The proposed regulation would update existing rules, some of which are 35 years old, and help modernize the Child Support Enforcement program. First, the proposed rule promotes the payment of child support and builds on bipartisan efforts to reform the criminal justice system. Second, the proposed rule promotes employment – one of the goals of welfare reform – and increases noncustodial parents’ ability to comply with their support orders.
