Bills, Bills, Bills: The FBI Doesn't Pay 'Em

January 10, 2008

The Associated Press reported this afternoon that phone companies cooperating with the FBI to wiretap suspect criminals are cutting off service because bureau isn't paying its phone bills. The delinquency was reported today in an audit released by the Justice Department's Inspector General Glenn Fine. The AP reports:

In at least one case, a wiretap used in a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act investigation "was halted due to untimely payment," the audit found.

The DOJ won't release the full, 87-page audit: instead a summary of findings is available to the public. Which begs the question: what else are they hiding? We're calling for the release of the full report, so the public may know the full story behind the FBI's mismanagement of taxpayers' money.
