The Padilla trial begins next month, and the "dirty bomb" charge--so prominent after his arrest at O'Hare, transfer to military custody, and detention since 2002--is nowhere to be found in the indictment. Instead, the prosecution's case is based on Padilla's alleged involvement in a wide-ranging, globe-trotting conspiracy. Sayeth U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke to prosecutors: the indictment is awful "light on facts."
