The ACLU and eight other groups, all members of the National VAWA Housing Working Group, submitted this testimony for a March 7, 2019 hearing on the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. The legislation includes vital housing protections for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking that increase safe housing options for survivors escaping the violence committee against them. The testimony explains the history of the inclusion of these protections, and illustrates the need for specific housing priorities in the reauthorization bill through the stories of survivors.
