ACLU Comment on House Corrections and Recidivism Reduction Act

WASHINGTON — The House Judiciary Committee will begin debate today on H.R. 759, the Corrections and Recidivism Reduction Act.

Jesselyn McCurdy, senior legislative counsel of the American Civil Liberties Union, said:

"Any meaningful criminal justice reform bill must reduce juvenile life without parole sentences after 20 years, allow compassionate release, and bring juvenile solitary confinement in the federal system to an end. We cannot restore families and communities or end our costly reliance on over-incarceration without these realistic reforms, which are already included in the Senate criminal justice reform bill. We will continue to lead efforts to improve this bill."
