In April 2010, the ACLU welcomed Professor Tariq Ramadan in his first U.S. appearance since he was barred from entering the country in 2004. The ACLU challenged the ideological exclusion of Ramadan, one of Europe's most respected Islamic scholars, in a lawsuit filed on behalf of American organizations that had invited him to speak to U.S. audiences.
