On April 1, 2025, Wisconsin will hold a state supreme court election. This election will have huge consequences for abortion rights, healthcare access, and other civil rights in the state. Learn more about the candidates below.

Candidates for the Wisconsin Supreme Court

Susan Crawford

Susan Crawford

Susan Crawford is endorsed by Planned Parenthood and has publicly touted her record as defending “access to basic rights and freedoms including reproductive healthcare (WisPolitics 2025)." She also represented Planned Parenthood in a successful challenge to anti-abortion laws in Wisconsin (Pines Bach, 2016). Crawford has stated “I should be the one to make decisions about my own body and my health care, together with my doctors. I trust other women to make those same decisions (New York Times, 2025).”

Brad Schimel

Brad Schimel

Brad Schimel has repeatedly stated he is opposed to legal abortion, and supported imprisoning doctors and nurses who provide reproductive healthcare (New York Times, 2025). Schimel supported overturning Roe v. Wade, ending federal protections for abortion rights (WisconsinEye, 2018). As Attorney General, Schimel was endorsed by anti-abortion group Wisconsin Right to Life, which called for prosecuting doctors and nurses for providing abortion care.
